Testimonial

A supporter of meadows, ten plants, and mixed crops of wheat and rye, Jérôme spares no effort to gain autonomy. Efforts rewarded when he sees the health of his herd and the quality of his fodder.

"Emilie, a SOBAC sales representative, came in 2011 and I liked her presentation. She left me some documentation and I liked the idea of making the most of manure. Covering more surface with the same volume, that spoke to me. I started by sowing all the manure with BACTÉRIOLIT. You could tell that the cows appreciated the change of atmosphere in the stables with less ammonia odours.

Manures stick less to mucking out and they are drier. There is no more juice around

We see that the manure is composting with all these mushrooms that appear on the heap. Besides, when you take it in the palm of your hand, it no longer smells of manure but of soil. The soils are much less compacted, they are easier to work in surface. We see lotus, clover, more legumes. The flora changes and therefore necessarily the fodder improves in quality and quantity. It is denser, thicker, there are no more culls in the meadows. The animals graze everywhere even behind the manure pile. All of this affects animal health. In the stables there are far fewer lung problems and the lameness is gone.

For 2-3 years I have not vaccinated at all and calves have no diarrhoea problems at all

Vet costs have decreased by 30%. The calves and the grazers profit really well. I eliminated 25 tonnes of lime and 10 tonnes of deep fertilizer. I also stopped fungicides on grains. We pay more attention to everything. I took the right path, that of reasonable agriculture. When colleagues saw my mixed crop of wheat and rye, they were surprised by its quality. In the SOBAC concept, the earth takes better water and there are plenty of earthworms. The meadows start better right after sowing. The machines travel better on the plots. To plough the stubble, even when wet, it is easy to plough. I realize that before I was not considering it. Now, I frequently look at the white filaments, the mycelium, which grow on manure

In reality, I was born to work with SOBAC. It completely fits my philosophy

Now, maybe I use two vials of antibiotics a year for a calf navel or on a whitlow. Out of 80 calves, I did not vaccinate or give an antibiotic. In terms of reproduction, last year, apart from when we had to help a cow that had twins, there were no problems with deliverance. I am always looking for autonomy. The mixed crops of wheat and rye and ten plant meadows are two spectacular new sources of protein. This winter, I will try the mixed crops of wheat and rye grains to avoid having to buy oilcakes. All my female livestock will be autonomous with the mixed crops of wheat and rye.

And the margins are starting to do well. My production is of better quality, I have stopped the chemical inputs and I think that the land will continue to evolve in the right direction.
