Testimonial

Nicolas Noirtin, SOBAC interstation in Guadeloupe. Based in Guadeloupe, Nicolas Noirtin is a SOBAC distributor for the West Indies. Encouraged by the results on the field, he is convinced that BACTÉRIOSOL is the solution for West Indian agriculture that has been shaken lately by several health scandals.

Marcel Mazoyer and Nicolas Noirtin

How did you hear about SOBAC ? Nicolas Noirtin : " I have been a provider of solutions for agriculture for many years. I crossed paths with Jacques Merle, seller of public works equipment and who had discovered BACTÉRIOSOL by relationships and proposed to market it in the West Indies. Not being in the business, he was experiencing real difficulties and he came to talk to me about it. At the start, I told him it was all smoke and mirrors and that many before him had tried to revolutionize farming practices. Still, I bought a little BACTÉRIOSOL and I implemented with customers because I wanted to give the product a chance.

What made you want to continue ? Nicolas Noirtin : "In 2015, with the very positive feedback I had on these experiments, I told him: I understand the product a little better, its performance and the prospects for the West Indies in the next 10-15 years. I suggested a partnership and we created a Site Agri, a company for Innovative Technical Solutions for the Agricultural Environment. The first customers reported better behaviour of the plant in critical periods of drought or floods. The plant was more resistant to the lack of water thanks to its rooting and in the event of torrential rains, the soil absorbed water much better.

I saw later that BACTÉRIOSOL also makes it possible to reduce fungal diseases much better and therefore to considerably reduce the use of phytosanitary products. Globally, the users do not use fertilizer anymore, did not lose in yield and gained in quality. I completely invested in this adventure and I recruited a technical sales representative. On each territory (Guadeloupe and Martinique), I invested in communication and Christophe Frebourg moved from metropolitan France to come and make soil profiles here. We are the only distributors of SOBAC solutions in Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Guyana.

How do you reach consumers? N.N.: I thought it was necessary to make noise to be heard by farmers and consumers. I proposed to BACTÉRIOSOL users who have adopted the concept 100%, a complete kit with umbrellas, baskets, banners like Marcel MEZY Technologies for the markets to sell their production by talking about their cultural approach. Among other things, I created "Les paniers de Marcel" (Marcel’s baskets) with a market gardener who has been in the process for three years and no longer uses phytosanitaries or fertilizers. He says he is delighted with the results.

What are your goals ? N.N. : As in mainland France, here too we are up against the weight of conventional agriculture which swears only by the N-nitrogen, P-phosphorus, K-potassium. There are still people who doubt our results. I only have one motto, my school of thought: proof by example. There are fourteen farmers who work without phytosanitary products, they have organized themselves into associations. At my request, they will participate in an "Open House" day in an agricultural high school. For them, BACTÉRIOSOL is one of the solutions that is effective.

Is the consumer open to this agriculture without chemical inputs ? N.N.: We are in a context where the way is opening up for environmentally friendly agriculture. I don’t think there are other processes that meet environmental, economic and agronomic imperatives as fully as BACTÉRIOSOL. Locally, we must be the answer to the health scandals affecting the West Indies. The population is very clearly aware that there are rates of cardiovascular disease and certain cancers that are linked to problems related to agriculture. They make the connection between health and what they eat. When I talk to them, I feel that I am touching a sensitive nerve in people. With the Chamber of Agriculture, I do not meet the barriers that may be present in mainland France. Overall, the socio-economic environment is favourable to the solutions we provide.

What types of farmers have adopted the SOBAC process ? N.N.: For the moment the customers who work with BACTÉRIOSOL are banana, sugar cane and market gardening producers, the products concerned are essentially watermelons, melons, tomatoes and tubers. About sugar cane, we already have analysis that prove that we get better sugar levels. We are increasing the number of events and we are gathering a lot of people on the territory. I am convinced that we are gaining more territory every year and that we will be part of the West Indian landscape in a sustainable way. There is currently a big wave of farmers going organic and it is up to us to support this change. We need to be identified as the right operator for this challenge. It is for this challenge that I get up every morning.
